FAQ - Why does the TrackerDog client show the "The version data was found by fuzzy matching. It may be wrong." message?

The TrackerDog client sends the following information to the TrackerDog server for tracking the new version information of each of your installed Palm applications.

Application name
Application database name
Application type ID
Application creator ID
Application version number
Application release date

The TrackerDog server first finds the version data by matching the type ID and creator ID since each Palm application should be associated with an unique ID. TrackerDog can find the exact application to provide you with the version information in this way.

Unfortunately, the type ID and creator ID are not published on the Internet. TrackerDog only collects application name, version number and release date information. For such cases, TrackerDog then uses the application name to fuzzy match the applications that exist within our database. If TrackerDog matches two or more candidates, TrackerDog shows "The version data was found by fuzzy matching. It may be wrong." message to you.

To help you and other people having the exact matching result, you can help us to specify the type/creator IDs for such applications. Please first try to find this application from our database. If the application shows on the results list, then click on the "Edit ID: XXX" button to fill in the IDs.

The other simple way is for you to send the software authors an email to ask them to list and maintain the correctness of their products in the TrackerDog database.

We open a "Developer Program" (It's free, too) for software authors to do that. Not only helping you but also other people to get the latest version information from TrackerDog. Please copy the email template below to send to vendors to ask them to list their products in the TrackerDog database.

To whom it may concern,

I am sending you this email due to finding the incorrect product version information on TrackerDog.

TrackerDog is Palm FREEWARE. It helps me to always keep my installed Palm applications up-to-date whenever I perform a HotSync.

They opened a "Developer Program" for you to list and maintain your products release information in TrackerDog database. This program is free for you to register. To let me know the newest product release information all the time, please take a look at the TrackerDog web site,
http://trackerdog.a0soft.com
and list your product information in the database.
